Dear Reader (2026-01-31),
Sometimes I get frustrated with my ignorance of how things work. One of those things was my wide angle lens (Canon RF 16mm f 2.8 STM), which I usually carry with me but seldom pull out of the bag because I didn’t know how to use it properly. Yesterday I decided to do something about it. Keith and I drove out to the Banff area, and I had only my wide angle lens on the camera. I am now happier with the lens, and quite pleased with these 4 images. The first photo is definitely a collaboration as Keith suggested the location and point of view – thanks Keith. His perspectives on the day can be found at https://keithsodyssey.blogspot.com/.

I came to get caught up on the South America images and started here, not realizing or remembering I hadn’t commented. This was a fun day. I was working with film, which with that camera is a fixed lens a bit wider than normal. But I’ve done lots of work with a 14mm lens, so knowing he was coming to grips with a similar lens, I felt compelled to point out a photo that I knew would work. Framing and leading lines are good things to guide the viewer around such wide images.
