Dear Reader (2025-02-27),
Well I am temporarily caught up on my Spanish homework, and so let’s return to drifting at speed.
In today’s post you and I reach the limits of navigable waters in the Weddell Sea (09-11). Our ship’s captain brought the ship up to the edge of the sea ice. There we stopped, disembarked, and briefly cavorted on the ice. Not all of us could disembark onto the sea ice at the same time. There was plenty of time to look down from Deck 7 into the dark ink waters, and out onto the near ice, and then further out to an unreachable land. Supper that night was held outdoors, where the topic of conversation around the dinner table was surrealism.
Before you and I reach the sea ice, there is more wonder in the air in and around Brown Bluff (01-08).
As we floated away from the Weddell Sea on our magic carpet with a glass of wine in one hand and a camera in the other, there was a sunset where the hands on the ship clock stopped moving.
