In the second post in this series (2026-07-27 Mongolia 02 – Getting There and Back), I described the shape of our route through the Gobi Desert as a very elongated rain drop, with multiple stops. One of those stops was Yolyn Am.
“Yolyn Am (Lammergeier Valley) is a deep and narrow gorge in the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains of southern Mongolia, where the previous year’s snow can still be found even in summer. The valley is named after the Lammergeier, which is called Yol in Mongolian. The Lammergeier is an Old World vulture, hence the name is often translated to Valley of the Vultures or Valley of the Eagles. The valley is located within Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park. [1]
