Driving Home

Dear Reader,

Well, isn’t it funny how some photos are planned and some are more about chance favouring the prepared mind.  Friday evening there was a brief flash of interesting colour in the sky.  By the time I had found a safe spot to stop the truck, the flash had gone. In another direction there was a hill I had photographed before (2017).  That capture was graphically interesting, technically fine and emotionally blah.  I have included it as a point of reference.  The black and white capture from Friday, has more character.  What do you think?

Cheers, Sean

  1. I wouldn’t have believed those were the same hill. The B&W is hands down the better shot.

One of my pet peeves is when they say a photographer was lucky to get a shot. There is an element of luck about what the clouds and light and weather are doing, but odds are the photographer had planned to be out there, knowing the possibilities were there. People say you have to be ready when opportunity knocks, and that’s certainly true. I’ve captured any number of photos where a few seconds before or after is nothing. I also believe it’s much more likely opportunity will knock if you shovel the sidewalk, and maybe leave a cookie for it.
